Some Unique Mother's Day Gifts

Mother's Day is just around the corner and no doubt flowers, cards, chocolates, perfumes and women's clothing will be on the top of everyone's shopping list, including maybe yours. But if your mom is going to go wild over any of the above gifts, just think how happy she'll be if you get her something different for once. For a refreshing change, unique Mother's Day gifts don't get any more unique or personal than a personalized photo collage puzzle.

Mother's day gifts are plenty and galore, but choose something that will remain close to her heart in the years to come. After all, mothers are the most prized blessing gifted to us by God.

You can buy her a framed painting or a replica of a famous work. Or better still, you could commission a portrait of your mom. If that is a bit too expensive for you, you can have an old photograph converted to a painting on canvas.

A day at the spa is every woman’s fantasy. You can buy her the gift of health and rejuvenation. Treat your mother to a day’s pampering at a spa… a great relaxation technique and an effective stress buster.

This is one gift where you can't go wrong! Even someone who's on a diet can enjoy these treats, as long as you pick out ones that are low calorie, sugar free, or fat free. Remember, the key is to personalize, so go with a cake that you know is their favorite. Perhaps they really enjoy a nice tiramisu or a Boston Cream pie? Go with that.

Getting your mother her favorite plant in a pot is also a very popular gift. You could also make her a hanger for the pot. To make the hanger, all you need is a milk carton, a sharp pair of scissors, and some paint. Cut some windows on the top of the carton, paint it, add your plant to the bottom of the carton, and hang it using string. Voila! Your hanging potted plant is ready!

What Does Mother's Day Mean To You?

The earliest celebrations of Mothers Day date back to Ancient Greece where there were celebrations in honor of the Mother of the Gods - Rhea. The 1600s saw the practice of observing Mothering Sunday on the fourth Sunday during Lent. The credit for the current date of second Sunday of May goes to suggestions made by Julia Ward Howe in 1872 and Anna Jarvis in 1907. Anna Jarvis began an intense campaign in 1908 to establish a national Mother's Day. Yielding to her suggestions President Woodrow Wilson announced that the second Sunday of May would be celebrated every year as Mother's Day.

Have you ever wondered what a mother thinks about Mother's Day Gifts? Stop for a moment and consider the questions. Let's assume that you had a normal life. No major horror stories about being abused, neglected, beaten, etc. Just a simple, normal life like most of us have. You were raised by a loving mother who tried her best to give you the best she had to give. Sure she probably yelled at you and sometimes even many times probably unfairly. And she may have punished you unfairly sometimes.

One of the most precious pieces of jewelry a mom can get is a personalized with birthstones for each of her children.  These come in many shapes and sizes including individual charms as separate simple gemstones attached to the necklace or bracelet.  A single pendant incorporating separate stones into an interesting background creates a singular piece for a mother of many children.

A unique first mother's day gift like a photo jigsaw puzzle is a gift that will remain in her memory forever. It is something that, when looked at, will bring back visions of that very first mothers day. It is a day that only comes only once in a lifetime so it is well worth it to think up a present that is so unique, personal and long lasting.
